I was recently asked this past Sunday by one of my technology volunteers “What’s the difference between !mpact’s desktop app and the website, what can you do on the desktop app that you can not achieve on the web?”. I told her that this was a very good question for I already had an answer but something happened while she was asking me this question. She pulled out an iPad. There is one out of many reasons why people will never purchase an iPad for the same reason people will purchase one …convenience. Convenience is not objective but subjective, what might be convenient to me may not be convenient to you.
However, Steve Jobs understood this about the original iPhone before it launched and still understands this now in the wake of the iPhone 4. What convenience is NOT and will never be is a “one size fit all” mentality but rather a “one size could fit all” mentality. This is why the iPad is so popular and the iPhone 4 will be even popular than it. It is too one of the many reasons why I decided to build a desktop application for Impact Church. People who do not desire to use the browser has the convenience to just click, wait and play. For convenience is not biased, it just us users who utilize these devices or applications that are.
